The Transocean Leader unit from Transocean and Island Offshore’s light well intervention vessel Island Frontier have been named by Statoil as its rig and intervention team of 2011 respectively.
“These two winners have achieved outstanding results,” Margareth Øvrum, executive vice president for Technology, Projects and Drilling (TPD) , said at the awards ceremony.
“They have done their work in a secure and efficient manner. Structured planning and safe execution have been important elements in these efforts.”
Characterise
The following features characterise the winners:
* no serious incidents
* a high level of operational efficiency
* consistent performance.
“Winning the price for intervention team of the year is an honour,” says Hermann Sveinsvoll, well intervention manager for Island Frontier.
“The personnel involved on the vessel and on land who’ve contributed to this outstanding result deserve every praise. Our ambition is to produce similar results in the future.”
Light well intervention (LWI) is an important component in Statoil’s tool box for improving recovery from producing fields, and is partly carried on from fixed installations.
In addition, the group currently has three vessels under charter for performing such operations on its subsea-completed production facilities.
“Our health, safety and environmental results and positive operational delivery reflects good teamwork,” says senior drilling engineer Andrew Lambert on Transocean Leader.
“In addition comes close collaboration between Statoil and our sub-contractors. This award will be an inspiration for drilling and well to continue the good work.”
He also emphasises that a good compliance and management culture will be an important criterion for achieving an equal level of success in the future.
Transocean Leader drilled seven exploration wells in the first 10 months of 2011 before being mobilised to drill production wells on the Troll field in the North Sea.
The evaluation has been made by Statoil’s improvement project, which works to focus attention on and contribute to safe, reliable and efficient drilling and well work.
This project team follows up more than 50 operations worldwide on a daily basis.
