A chance for Poland, which is shale gas, was discussed recently by the Minister of Treasury Mikołaj Budzanowski at the conference entitled “Poland on shale gas. Local global business perspectives”, organised by the Employers of Poland.
During the conference, Minister Budzanowski referred to the origins of shale gas production in the United States, where thirty years ago one of the first reports on the volume of shale gas deposits was prepared. Poland does not have to wait so long for the first effects of boring and at the turn of 2014/15 at least one shale gas mine can operate in Poland – the Minister said. He also referred to the latest report of the Polish Geological Institute, according to which there is so much gas that Poland can not pass by the opportunity created by resources located under the ground.
According to the Minister, shale gas provides a real opportunity to lower energy prices for Polish consumers and companies. The development of the mining industry will also affect positively on local labour markets, as exemplified by the U.S., where one borehole may generate approximately 60 work places. According to Mikołaj Budzanowski, simplification and shortening of administrative procedures for investors and the ultimate settlement of the issue of taxation of profits from extraction are crucial for the success of the shale gas project in Poland. Success will be possible only through determination and responsibility of the government and investors – concluded Minister Budzanowski.
