Allseas’ pipe laying vessel Solitaire arrived in Shetland to commence installation of the 232 kilometre long pipeline that will link the new Shetland gas plant to the rest of United Kingdom.

Solitaire is due to begin the two day operation of pulling the concrete coated pipe ashore at Firths Voe, arriving as close as 900 metres inshore.

The underwater pipe will then be linked to the land pipe that has been set between the gas plant construction site and Firths Voe landing site.

Allseas Group and Van Oord were commissioned by Total to perform this task. Work is expected to be finished by June this year.

When construction work is finished, gas from the Laggan and Tormore fields will be injected to the new L500 million Shetland gas plant for stabilizing before being released via this new pipeline for processing in St Fergus.
