Arrow Energy of Australia has welcomed the Queensland Government’s approval to release the company’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for its liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant on Curtis Island off Gladstone, in Central Queensland.
The release of the Arrow LNG Plant EIS, which will become available for public review from Monday, April 16 for six weeks, represents a significant milestone for the company.
Two other EIS documents, which are also key components of Arrow’s LNG project, have been recently released for public review:
– Surat Gas Project – upstream development near Dalby, in southern Queensland’s Surat Basin
– Arrow Bowen Pipeline – to transport coal seam gas (CSG) from Arrow’s gas fields in Central Queensland’s Bowen Basin to Curtis Island
The Arrow LNG Plant EIS details the potential environmental, social and economic impacts and mitigants, as well as the benefits of the CSG to LNG facility which will process and store gas in tanks for subsequent shipping globally to help meet a growing world demand for cleaner burning fuels.
Some of the key features of the plant are:
– Staged development producing up to 18 million tonnes per annum of LNG, with a first phase of two x four million tonne per annum processing units (or trains)
– A gas pipeline tunnel, about 9km in length, from near the Gladstone City Gate to Port Curtis
– Marine logistics such as jetties and offloading facilities on Curtis Island and the mainland
Arrow Chief Executive Officer Andrew Faulkner said the release of the LNG plant EIS represented another significant step towards a final investment decision (FID) on the company’s LNG project late next year.
“ It’s vital our project is developed with the input of the community ,” Mr Faulkner said.
“ We’re serious about our responsibilities to the people of Gladstone and surrounding communities and this rigorous process ensures we balance all the environmental, social and economic impacts of this world-scale CSG to LNG project .”
