The North West Shelf LNG sellers and Kyushu Electric Power agreed a six year contract extension under the existing agreement signed in February 2007.
The contract extension results in the sale of over 5 million tonnes and will see the North West Shelf Project supply LNG to Kyushu Electric under this agreement until March 2023.
Kyushu Electric Power is Japan’s fourth largest power utility and has been a major customer of the North West Shelf Project since 1989.
North West Shelf Australia LNG President Brian Mumme welcomed the contract extension between Kyushu Electric and each North West Shelf LNG seller.
“ The North West Shelf LNG sellers value highly their long-standing business relationship with each of their Japanese customers.
“ We believe this continues to confirm ongoing market interest in the safe, secure and reliable supplies of LNG from the North West Shelf Project ,” Mr Mumme said.
The six equal participants in the North West Shelf Project are: BHP Billiton Petroleum (North West Shelf) Pty Ltd, BP Developments Australia Pty Ltd, Chevron Australia Pty Ltd, Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty Ltd, Shell Development (Australia) Pty Ltd and Woodside Energy Ltd (Operator).
