Dayang Yihao, a scientific research vessel, has been deployed on a 370 day ocean expedition from China, from the city of Sanya on Hainan island province, kicking off the country’s 26th oceanic expedition mission, reported Pravda.ru.
The work included in the expedition encompasses the study of polymetallic sulfides, biorrecursos and the environment, stated Tao Chunhui, chief scientist of the expedition team of Chinese scientific research ship.
The ship is expected to conclude its voyage on May 2, 2013, when it should return to the coastal city of Qingdao in northeast China.
During a previous scientific research which lasted 369 days and ended December 11, 2011, the ship crossed the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans, including stops in Brazil, Panama and Ecuador, covering a total of about 64 thousand nautical miles.
This previous voyage showed positive results with studies on metal sulfides and nodules, the marine environment, genes and biological marine biodiversity.
