BigLift Shipping recently transported five mobile cranes for leading crane manufacturers Liebherr and Gottwald from Germany and Belgium to Nigeria, employing their heavy lift vessel Happy Dragon.

Unique features in this transport were carrying five mobile cranes in one shipment, and one crane being placed on the tanktop, thus using the open hatch sailing facility. Total cargo loaded was 85,392 freighttons.

In Rostock, Germany, three Liebherr cranes, LHM 550s, were loaded on April 10-14, measuring 24.8 x 15.3 x 40.6 mtrs each and weighing abt 295 mton. The cranes were discharged in Apapa, Nigeria on May 5-8. They were loaded in two pieces, with the jibs being stowed separately.

Two Gottwald cranes, GHMK 4406s – measuring 48.4 x 13.5 x 30.1 mtrs each and weighing abt 275 mton – were loaded in Antwerp, Belgium on April 16-19. These were discharged in Lagos, Nigeria on May 2-4. Both cranes were handled in one piece.

BigLift Shipping is one of the world’s leading heavy lift shipping companies, specialized in worldwide ocean transportation of heavy lift and project cargoes, operating to high standards of safety, operational reliability and to strict time schedules. BigLift’s fleet consists of 13 state-of-the art vessels with lifting capacities to 1,400 mt. Next year the fleet will be extended with two newly built Happy S-type vessels, increasing the lifting capacities to 1,800 mt.
