Subsea UK launched its annual scholarship initiative which is aimed at boosting the number of highly skilled subsea engineers in the industry.
The scholarship programme, which enables successful candidates to study towards a post-graduate MSc in subsea engineering, was introduced last year by Subsea UK and has a number of students currently on the programme.
“It is vital that we invest in tomorrow’s talent for the future of our sector,” said Subsea UK’s chief executive, Neil Gordon . “Our vision for the scholarship programme is to attract and develop new entrants – from graduates to mature engineers – who will then go on to drive forward the next generation of subsea services and technology.
“The subsea sector is continuing to experience rapid growth and if the UK is to remain at the global forefront we must build on the existing talent pool to ensure the right skills are in place for the future prosperity of the sector.
“Graduates coming in now have the chance to really make their mark on the sector, which offers a wide range of exciting career opportunities on a global platform, while the sector needs their fresh perspective and ideas as we push into ever more challenging subsea environments.”
Potential candidates for this year’s scholarships need to apply by 25 July and will be graduate engineers, normally living in the UK, who are employed and supported by a Subsea UK member company.
The Subsea UK scholarship, accrued through subscriptions and various initiatives and services, will cover up to 80% of the total annual cost up to a maximum of £7,500 for a full-time course and £3,500 for a part-time one. As well as fees, the costs covered will include course material, books, travel, subsistence and accommodation where appropriate.
The post-graduate masters scholarships are intended to be either a one-year full-time programme or suitable part-time programme. Students applying must have received an offer of a place at any UK university. The scholarship will be paid to the sponsoring company and the student must undertake to continue in the employment of that company for a minimum of two years after completion of the degree programme.
