Scientists worry about the impact of the subsea turbines on deep-diving seabirds along the Scottish coastline, reported scotsman.com.

Developers of the wave projects are now facing the problems that have been an issue for onshore wind farm developers for some time.

Scientists in the Pentland Firth have been studying the behavior of black guillemots and they found out that they are endangered because they dive as deep as 40 meters underwater for fish.

Environmental Research Institute Scientists at Thurso fitted guillemots and great skuas on the islands of Stroma and Hoy with tracking devices in order to learn more about their movements.

However, the collected data was of limited use because many birds managed to shed the tracking devices.
