According to Teyf Research & Consulting Group, Omantel has announced the launch of 3 new submarine cables to be operational by the end 2012 to strengthen its position as the ‘carrier of carriers’ for submarine cables landing in Oman and connecting to the rest of the region.

Abdulrahim al Bahlani, GM of wholesale business relations in Omantel said “The rapid growth in our submarine cable business reflects the growing demand of the region for high quality cable networks that can guarantee high speed data transmission of the very highest quality.”

“Omantel is proud to have built a reputation in the region as a ‘carrier of carriers’ – using our expertise to ensure that Oman has become a gateway to the whole region for world class and efficient telecommunications and data transfer,” Bahlani added.

While mentioning the cooperation between Omantel and its Iranian partner, Pishgaman Kavir Asia, Bahlani said that “ We already have international partnerships that have enabled Omantel to provide landing facilities for five international cable systems at sites in Bustan, Seeb, Blue City and at the Musandam peninsula” . He then added some details about these five systems and stated that “ Two more systems – the MENA and GBI networks – will land at the existing facility in Seeb and become operational from the last quarter of the year. Another system is the Pishgaman Oman Iran (POI) network which will become operational from a landing site at Blue City in July 2012″.

It is important to note that Teyf Group as the think-tank of Iran telecoms sector plans to hold the 2nd IP Transit Summit on July 10, 2012. The main topics to be discussed in the summit will be around partnership and investment of private section in projects of international optical fibers and gaining proper share in bandwidth market of the region. The summit is a great opportunity for all policymakers, managers and experts of the relevant industry to exchange their opinions.
