According to Togo Telecom, West Africa Cable System (WACS) was inaugurated yesterday with the central landing of the fibre-optic cable in Afidegnigba.
Through their offer of more affordable broadband internet connectivity for the nation, the telco would like to enter the new era of telecommunications, reports TeleGeography.
The WACS cable is 14,500km long and has a capacity of 5.12Tbps. It will link countries in southern Africa, West Africa and Europe, and therefore provide direct access to other global submarine cables.
Approximately CFA325 billion (USD634 million) was spent on the project. The countries participating in the project each contributed financially.
The success of this project is the culmination of the joint project between countries that wish to improve the quality of their communication.
