Recognising the benefits of Sixth Generation (6G®) acoustic technology, Sonar Equipment Services has placed its first order with Sonardyne International Ltd.

Based in Great Yarmouth, UK, Sonar Equipment is a leading supplier of high grade geophysical, oceanographic, ROV and hydrographic marine survey equipment to the offshore sector. The order for Sonardyne’s most advanced subsea navigation and data telemetry technology includes ROVNav 6 LBL transceivers and Compatt 6 positioning transponders. In order to achieve the highest levels of equipment utilisation, Sonar Equipment has opted to equip its Compatts with the highest grade Paroscientific DigiQuartz pressure sensors, inclinometers and sound velocity sensors. The equipment will be added to the company’s rental pool from where it will be made available for global subsea positioning projects.

6G products utilise Sonardyne’s ultra-wideband width, digital ranging and telemetry protocols developed to increase the precision, speed and reliability of acoustic positioning and aided inertial navigation operations. The platform has been proven to deliver significant operational savings, allowing multi-user subsea construction survey tasks to be completed in less time than was previously possible.

Commenting on the deal, Scott Johnstone, Sonar Equipment’s Managing Director said, “This is our first investment in 6G as a result of the growing demand for excellent performance, flexibility and cost savings. I fully believe that as customers enjoy the new functionality that 6G offers, we will further reinforce our position as a leading supplier of the latest generation acoustic positioning technology.”

Simon Goldsworthy, Sales Manager at Sonardyne commented, “Although this is our first order from Sonar Equipment, we have a long-standing relationship with the team behind the company so we’re excited to cultivate this new partnership with Sonar Equipment. This latest order of our 6G equipment is recognition of the cost savings and versatility it will bring to Sonar Equipment’s customers and their projects.”
