Following less than 18 months of intense construction work, Energinet.dk is now ready to transmit power from the coming offshore wind farm between Anholt and Grenaa to the power grid.

On 20 June 2012, commissioning was completed with all system parts fully energised, and a relieved project team could confirm full connectivity from the transformer station in Trige via land and submarine cables and on to the large transformer platform in the waters between Grenaa and Anholt.

“Despite a few bumps along the way, we were able to complete the project over a month ahead of deadline, which is 1 August 2012. And we were able to stay within budget,” says project manager Jens Christian Hygebjerg , Energinet.dk .

The total costs of the landing facilities amount to approximately DKK 1.1 billion.

The first wind turbines are scheduled to start generating power in late summer. When DONG Energy has established the entire wind farm some time next year, its power generation will equal 4% of Denmark’s total electricity consumption.

The Anholt facility is the third wind farm Energinet.dk has connected to the power grid since the company was formed in 2005. In 2009, the Horns Rev 2 wind farm was connected to the grid and the next year it was the Rødsand 2 wind farm.

Energinet.dk is now preparing to connect the next two wind farms to the power grid; Horns Rev 3 in the North Sea, and Kriegers Flak in the Baltic Sea.
