Seaborn Networks, the developer and operator of the first direct submarine cable between the United States and Sao Paulo, Brazil, announced that Marc Aron has been named General Counsel and Senior Vice President, Corporate Development.
Marc most recently served as Assistant General Counsel of Global Crossing where he directed the legal team supporting sales of more than $1 billion in the Americas as well as support for global submarine telecom system construction and equipment procurement. Previously Marc was Global Crossing’s General Counsel for LatinJAmerica and the Caribbean.
“Marc brings a unique combination of legal work that is directly applicable to Seaborn Networks’ business,” said Larry Schwartz, Seaborn Networks’ Chief Executive Officer. “He has significant experience relating to international submarine cable construction, permitting, capacity upgrades, sales, financing, and tax planning. In addition, much of his work comes from leading legal teams in a variety of complex corporate and commercial transactions relating to Brazil and other Latin American markets.”
Marc has 13 years of corporate legal experience in senior in-house legal roles relating to wholesale carrier and submarine cable businesses. Before joining Global Crossing, Marc led legal support for infrastructure project development and financing in Latin America and Europe for Entergy Corporation’s independent power business. He began his legal career at the international law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell in 1986.
A member of the New York, New Jersey and Oregon Bar, Marc holds a B.A. with High Distinction & High Honors in Economics from University of Michigan, an M.P.A. in Economics from Princeton University, and a J.D. from New York University.
Marc’s appointment as General Counsel and Senior Vice President, Corporate Development coincided with the closing of Seaborn Networks’ latest round of funding.
Seaborn Networks is the developer and operator of Seabras-1, a lower priced submarine cable between the United States and Sao Paulo, Brazil that is also the first-ever direct cable to Sao Paulo from the US. Seabras-1 is a 32 Tbps system that connects the US and Sao Paulo, with a branch that lands in Fortaleza, Brazil. Activation is scheduled for 2014. Seaborn was founded by successful submarine cable and wholesale carrier executives with experience in designing, building and operating many of the world’s largest submarine and terrestrial networks. Prior submarine systems designed, built and operated by Seaborn’s workforce represent a total of 75 landing stations, 250 points of presence and 250,000 km of submarine cable.
