On Saturday July 28th, Kenz Cranes, The Netherlands-based provider of offshore lifting and hoisting solutions, successfully delivered the new build 30t rope luffing offshore pedestal crane.

After final load testing, the Kenz crane has been transported and will be installed onto the Chevron Captain platform in the North Sea.

The 30t offshore pedestal crane is custom-designed for the Chevron Captain BLP platform. The Captain platform will undergo a life expectancy extension and therefore the new Kenz crane will replace the existing crane on the platform. The installation and load testing of the crane took place at the Kenz Figee Group construction quay in Zaandam. On Friday July 20th the crane has been transported to the Ter Haak terminal in Amsterdam. There, the crane has been seafastened onto Saipem’s “UR-98/UR-99” barge, after which the Kenz crane has been transported and will be installed onto the Captain platform.

Captain platform is located 134km (90 miles) north-east of Aberdeen in a water depth of 104m (340ft). It came on stream in 1997 and has an average production of 85,000 barrels per day. The field infrastructure comprises a WPP (well head protector) platform and BLP (bridge linked platform) connected by a network of pipelines to an FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) vessel, on which the crude oil is processed and stored, ready for export by shuttle tanker.
