The vessel Artemis Atlantic has resumed acquisition of 2D seismic data as planned in the north-eastern part of the Barents Sea.
A total of approx. 14 300 kilometres (about 40 lines) of seismic will be acquired in this area, and according to the plan, the work will continue until mid-October. The fist part of the survey took place during the period from 16 June to 3 July.
During the period from 10 July to 7 August, the Artemis Atlantic acquired a total of 3 370 kilometres of seismic further south on the Norwegian shelf, in the Nordland IV and V areas.
The area to be surveyed in the northeastern Barents Sea is located in the previously contested area along the border with Russia. The acquisition is taking place on assignment from the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. This is the first time Norwegian authorities have acquired seismic data in this part of the Barents Sea.
Over the course of the summer and autumn, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate plans to acquire a total of 30 000 kilometres of seismic in the Barents Sea, around Jan Mayen and in the Nordland IV and V areas.
