The Western Basin Dredging and Disposal Project (WBDDP) reached a major milestone this week with 8 million cubic metres of material now dredged out of the Gladstone harbour which is just over 30% of the total 26 million cubic metres.

The backhoe dredging works for this project are now complete. All berth pockets are dredged to 13 metres and access channels are dredged to 7.5 metres giving complete unrestricted access to LNG construction docks and Material Offloading Facilities (MOF) on Curtis Island.

The WBDDP will increase port access by deepening, widening and creating new shipping channels with depths of up to 13 metres to allow vessels to enter and exit the Western Basin.

Vessel access is required for each of the LNG companies based on Curtis Island to load and export Liquefied Natural Gas.
