Russia: Frigate INS Tarkash Passes Sea Trials

Frigate INS Tarkash (F46) built by the Yantar shipyard for the Indian Navy has successfully completed its sea trials in the Baltic Sea .

After enduring various types of testing, INS Tarkash is heading back to the shipyard where the vessel will receive the final touches in preparation for its hand over.

Yantar has been building frigates (on Russian classification – escort ships) for Indian Navy since 2006. In total, the shipyard builds three frigates – INS Teg (Saber), INS Tarkash (Quiver), and INS Trikand (Bow). Project 11356 was developed by Severnoye Design Bureau subordinate to United Shipbuilding Corporation.

The Talwar class is a new class of frigates designed and built by Russia for the Indian Navy. The Talwar class guided missile frigates, also known as the Type 1135, are modified Krivak III class frigates from Russia. The Talwar Class has a displacement of 4,000 tons and speed of 30 knots and is capable of accomplishing a wide variety of missions, primarily, finding and eliminating enemy submarines and large surface ships.

Length: 124.8 metres

Beam: 15.2 metres

Draught: 4.2 metres

Propulsion: 2 × DS-71 gas turbines and 2 × DT-59 boost turbines, driving two shafts.

Speed: 32 knots

Range: 4,500 miles at 18 knots

Endurance: 30 days

Complement: 220

Crew: 190
