In continuation of Cape Wind’s project, a jack-up barge will be taking sediment samples of Nantucket Sound’s ocean floor for Cape Wind.
According to southcoasttoday.com , the barge’s crew will spend the next two months boring holes into the ocean floor in order to get a better idea of the geological makeup from the collected samples.
The ocean floor has already been electronically monitored, however, these samples should give a better idea of the different sediments present at different depths.
Cape Wind’s planned 130 wind turbines steel foundations will be driven 80 feet into the ocean floor at this location, and the exact makeup of the shoal will influence how they are designed.
