Gladstone Ports Corporation will begin transitioning toward a light based monitoring programme to protect seagrass in the Gladstone harbour.

Under the programme a Dual Water Quality Management Approach will be implemented where both light and turbidity levels will be monitored to address seagrass health during the Western Basin Dredging and Disposal project (WBDDP).

GPC will continue to maintain turbidity as the primary control with the light based monitoring programme as a secondary measure.

This change is consistent with the requirement specified by the Coordinator General in the EIS report at the commencement of the project.

The Dual Water Quality Management Approach will be available to the public on the WBDDP website and updated daily using graphs and a traffic light system.
