Steam Packet Company has objected to proposals made by Celtic Array to build a 2.2GW Rhiannon offshore wind farm, while the Infrastructure Minister David Cretney wrote a letter to Centrica also concerned about a similar matter.
The Isle of Man Today says that the Steam Packet Company objected to the proposal because it would cut through both the Heysham and Liverpool routes.
Minister Cretney said that the maintenance of the crucial shipping routes to the Isle of Man must be considered by any proposed wind farm development. In addition, he pointed out the possible impacts on fishing patterns and wildlife habitats.
Nevertheless, Minister Cretney explained that the Isle of Man Government supports renewable energy generation with its environmental and economic benefits.
