Eidesvik Offshore ASA was today appointed as the first winner of YoungShip International´s new Young Corporation Award.
Rikke Lind from Redninggsselskapet handed out the prize and Ann.Helen Langaker, President of YoungShip Oslo received the prize on behalf of Eidesvik.
The other nominees was, Grieg Shipping Group, Wilh. Wilhelmsen, DNV, Norwegian Hull Club, Skuld and Subsea7.
“We think it´s great to be given this award that recognize the work Eidesvik has put down through many years to ensure young people the opportunity of a maritime education and career development within our industry. We are especially pleased to see that this award is coming from the young professionals themselves” says VP HR & OD of Eidesvik, Erling Lodden .
The jury justifies its decision:
The jury represents the chairs of 3 local YoungShip branches, and has weighed the worthy candidates based on 5 main criteria, selected by the Board of YoungShip International. The Young Corporation Award 2012 shall go to the company who is considered best in class in:
The jury members have separately evaluated and scored the candidates on each criteria. The winner has been selected based on the total score and a jury meeting. The winner will receive a diploma, and be granted a permanent, detailed description under Young Corporation Award Winners section of YoungShip International´s webpage.
The jury states the following of the winner of Young Corporation Award 2012:
“The selected company has a strategy for organic growth, practiced through a policy of 10% of their total positions being internal training positions. The company has clear measurements for development of their employees, and scholarships for students.”
Young employees are from the earliest stages of their career given responsibility and opportunity to develop their talents, through various assignments and projects. The company did for several years participate in the Norwegian Shipowners Association´s Maritime trainee programme.
It promotes its employees as their most valuable resource and its corporate values are thoroughly implemented through all levels of management and the organisation. The company offers introduction programmes and internal trainee programmes, recruits actively candidates directly from school, and functions as a breeding ground for talents other companies benefit strongly from.
The winner further invests heavily in the education of Norwegian seafarers as strong contributors in the Cadet programme. Through a regional partnership, they provide a job guarantee for youth educating as maritime personnel, and are co-founders of the Maritime Academy of Haugesund. Last, but not least, they offer their own leadership development programme for young talents, Eidesvik Young Leaders.
