Sinopec, Chinese super-large petroleum and petrochemical company and its transportation partner China Shipping Group have placed an order with the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a large shipbuilding enterprise under the leadership of China Shipbuilding Group Corporation (CSSC) for construction of four LNG carriers.
Namely, the stakeholders have signed a contract on four newbuild dual-fuel diesel-electric vessels of 174,000 cubic meter capacity, with a possibility of extending the order on two additional vessels, the Shipping Herald informed.
The order forms part of Sinopec’s intention to transport 7.6 million tons per annum of LNG cargo from the Australia Pacific LNG project.
The construction of the vessels is scheduled to be completed from 2015 to 2017 and the said newbuilds represent the biggest DF/DE LNG carriers ever built by Hudong.
The Hudong and Zhonghua shipyards, with a history of over 70 years, have so far delivered to both domestic and overseas customers over 3,000 ships ranging from large and medium-sized container ships, LPG carriers, chemical carriers, Ro/Ro ships, floating production storage units, products carries, bulk-cargo carriers, passenger ships to various kinds of ships for naval use.
