On the second day of HUSUM WindEnergy, His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince Joachim of Denmark honoured the trade fair with his presence. Before delivering the opening speech at the Windmasters Dinner at Husum Castle in the evening, the Prince, who is well known for his interest in conservation and renewable energy, visited Danish companies at the world’s biggest wind power exhibition.

It was clearly an important moment for Managing Director Peter Becker and Chairman of the Supervisory Board Peter Cohrs as His Royal Highness’ limousine pulled up at the exhibition grounds at 4.30 in the afternoon. The Prince was cheerful and obviously well informed during the official welcome by the exhibition organisers’ two representatives.

The son of Queen Margaret had come to Husum from the Danish town of Mögeltondern, and on an hour-long tour he learned all about the latest technological trends and developments in the wind power industry.

He dropped in on selected exhibitors including Svendborg Brakes, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of braking systems for wind turbines, Mita-Teknik, a specialist in wind power automation, world market leader Vestas, and the Danish national booth. The Prince’s visit was emblematic of the long historical connection between North Frisia and Denmark.

“We have a lot to thank the Danes for. HUSUM WindEnergy would not have come about without their partnership; indeed the Danes consider our wind fair to be theirs as well in some respects. We are very honoured to have been able to host Prince Joachim.”

The festive high-point of the Prince’s visit was his opening of the Windmasters Dinner at Husum Castle. Exhibition director Peter Becker spoke in the run-up to the evening event about the gift the exhibition organisers had prepared for their prestigious visitor: a basket of regional culinary specialities from North Frisia.
