Det norske has submitted an impact assessment for the Ivar Aasen field. The impact assessment forms part of the plan for development and operation (PDO) which will be submitted by the end of this year.

The Ivar Aasen field lies in the northern part of the North Sea, approximately 175 km west of Karmøy. The development of the field will be coordinated with the development of the Edvard Grieg field. The plan is to build one platform on each field. The Edvard Grieg platform will supply the Ivar Aasen field with electric power. A solution with a joint power supply from shore to the Ivar Aasen, Edvard Grieg, Dagny and Johan Sverdrup fields is also being assessed. Det norske has presented several good environmental solutions for the Ivar Aasen development, including that produced water will be reinjected into the formation.

The impact assessment will be sent on an official consultation round to more than 60 consultation bodies. The deadline for submitting consultation statements is eight weeks. Interested and affected parties can submit comments and input to Det norske oljeselskap.

An estimated total of NOK 24.3 billion will be invested in the Ivar Aasen field over a six-year period from 2013 to 2018. Production start for the Ivar Aasen field has been set for the third quarter 2016, which means that some of the investments will be made after the field has started producing.
