Eni Norge AS has received consent to carry out drilling with the Scarabeo 8 mobile drilling facility.
The consent relates to the drilling of appraisal well 7122/7 – Goliat, which is part of production licence 229 in Norwegian Barents sea.
Water depth at the site is 382 metres.
The operation has an estimated duration of 50 days.
SSDR Scarabeo 8 has been operating for ENI Norge from the beginning of 2012 and will operate up to at least 2017.
The rig is capable of operating under harsh environmental conditions and is constructed especially for this purpose. The rig is equipped with a dynamic positioning (DP) system, allowing drilling at extreme water depths.
It is a 6th generation rig, with a double derrick, designed to offer enhanced operating capacity and performance. This particular rig has a long, bright and busy future ahead in Norwegian waters.
