This year at the 20th annual Security Essen, Sonardyne International Ltd and its subsidiary company Marine and Remote Sensing Solutions (MARSS) Ltd. will be displaying their automated surface and underwater security system in Hall 8 on the European Commission stand. Held in Essen, Germany, the event is the leading world forum for security and fire prevention technology, attracting 50,000 trade visitors.

In 2006, MARSS received funding from the European Commission as part of its FP 7 program. The company took the lead in the development effort for a major security program known as Sectronic, looking at the protection of ports and commercial shipping. MARSS was acquired by Sonardyne in 2011 and from the Sectronic project has emerged NIDAR, a ground breaking situational awareness security system that detects, tracks, classifies and deters security threats.

Scalable to protect any size facility, NIDAR integrates radar, camera, underwater sonar, AIS, satellite imagery and access control data into a 360° security shield that provides early warning and protection against an approaching threat. The unique touchscreen interface is simple and intuitive to use and product experts will be available to guide visitors through its many features and benefits.

“We are delighted to have been invited onto the European Commission’s stand at Security Essen this year. As a direct result of the FP7 funding, our company was able to expand and acquire the skills to create NIDAR, ” said Johannes Pinl, Managing Director at MARSS . “ The requirement for intelligent surface and underwater security surveillance is accelerating across many sectors and Security Essen is a fantastic opportunity to display NIDAR’s powerful capabilities. It is the first fully automated command and control system for the protection of vessels, ports, waterside and strategic offshore infrastructure, maintaining a 360° shield around an asset.”
