The new 132m jack-up vessel Brave Tern, commissioned to install both of Forewind’s meteorological masts on Dogger Bank, has been completed and is now on her way to the Harland & Wolff fabrication plant in Belfast.
Built by Fred Olsen Windcarrier at the Lamprell shipyard in Dubai, Brave Tern will arrive in Belfast in about one month from now ready for its inaugural job.
The innovative suction-installed bucket foundations and the met masts themselves have been fabricated by Fred Olsen companies under an EPCI contract with Forewind. The fabrication of the foundations and met mast components is almost complete and once the Brave Tern arrives, they will be loaded out and transported to Dogger Bank, more than 120 kilometres off the UK’s east coast.
One met mast will be installed in the west of the zone and the other in the east to ensure a wide spread of data can be collected.
The timing of the installation will depend on the sailing time to the UK and the weather on Dogger Bank but it is currently due to be before the end of 2012.
