The latest Mark V vessel to join the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) fleet received a warm welcome and was named Salome at a ceremony in Sydney Harbour, Australia, on 3 Oct 2012.
With 200 high-profile guests including The Lady Sponsor for the Salome; Ms Anke Koeckler, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Australia, the ceremony was a successful event and provided an extraordinary view to Sydney locals.
Ms Koeckler introduced Salome saying: “…. the ship Salome has already made a name for herself… her efficient forward design, low energy consumption systems and equipment and economical engines define her as one of the new breed of ships on the seas today.”
After the ceremony, guests were taken onboard the Salome where they experienced a vessel tour and had the opportunity to view the different features of the vessel. Guests later enjoyed a dinner harbour cruise where they watched the Salome depart Sydney Harbour in the evening.
WWL has a long history in Oceania. WWL ships first called at the port of Sydney in 1895, and have been sailing Down Under ever since. The company today has regular calls to Adelaide, Brisbane, Port Kembla, Melbourne and Fremantle in Australia as well as to Auckland in New Zealand for import and export services. Salome is the 4th of the Mark V generation Ro-Ro vessels delivered from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and is a Wallenius Marine owned vessel, operated by WWL. The Mark V vessels are the newest and largest RoRo vessel in the world and boast more than 50,000 square meters in deck area and a 12 meter wide ramp with a weight capacity of 500 tons. Offering outstanding cargo flexibility and reduced emissions, they support WWLs mission to deliver innovative and sustainable global shipping and logistics solutions for manufacturers of cars, trucks, heavy equipment and specialised cargo.
