Hallin Marine, a Superior Energy Services company, announces the commencement of a new remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) support and inspection project in the Donghae gas field located off the coast of South Korea in the Sea of Japan. The contract includes deployment of the latest addition to Hallin’s fleet, the DP2 Kendal, which will be supporting a range of underwater inspection and survey services for the the ROV and survey equipment onboard.
“ We have operated successfully in the South Korean market on earlier projects and have a good understanding of the region’s offshore support market based on these past experiences, ” states Rik Zwinkels, Managing Director of Hallin’s Singapore East Division . “ I am fully confident that this latest venture will extend our reputation as a complete and highly efficient integrated service provider. The Kendal was chosen for her suitability to the conditions of the environment. Her structural design and onboard equipment are ideal for the provision of full IRM support and services in the harsh weather conditions for which the Donghae field is known. Commenced on 11 October, the project is scheduled to run for 30 days. ”
Hallin’s Kendal is equipped to provide a wide range of offshore subsea activity including ROV operations and support. Complete with a built-in air diving capability, the vessel is fully compliant with the latest Special Purpose Ship Code, ABS Class Requirements and holds DP2 notation. Built in Batam, Kendal has a maximum draft of just 5 metres, is 65.5 metre long and 16 metre wide.
Korea National Oil Corporation discovered the Donghae field in 1997 and developed it to the current gas production level of 50 million cubic feet per day. The field’s total proven reserves are around 250 billion feet.
