The new Busan headquarters building of the Korean Register is to host the 5th Seoul International Maritime and Shipbuilding Conference (SIMS) on 15 and 16 November 2012
SIMS has grown into the industry’s premier gathering for shipowners and shipbuilders to meet and discuss the pressing issues of the day and this year’s conference will focus on “Mapping smart strategies for the future”. Speakers will represent a range of sectors and geographical perspectives and will debate topics such as where the industry is headed and how to protect the planet. Experts will also investigate the opportunities being presented by the offshore sector and discuss the essential maritime services of law and insurance. In addition, a special seminar focusing on the Ship’s Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) will also be held.
SIMS regularly attracts an audience of around 200 delegates from across the world and is seen as an essential networking forum as well as an important platform to further business interests and to move the industry debate forward.
The conference is organised by the Korea Shipowners’ Association, the Korea Shipbuilders’ Association and the Korean Register (KR). Speaking on behalf of the organizing committee, Dr Oh Kong-gyun, Chairman of KR said: “This year I am delighted that KR is able to host SIMS in its splendid new headquarters building in the heart of the maritime city of Busan. Our conference majors on the many topical issues surrounding ship operating and ship building and so it is fitting that we will be debating those issues in a city that is home to so many shipping companies and shipyards.
Our speakers are all experts in their own sectors and it is particularly pleasing to see that so many well-known and well-respected industry professionals have chosen to participate. SIMS continues to grow in stature and in reputation and I am looking forward to two days of stimulating and informative debate”
