CEDA’s Site Visit to the London Gateway Port is scheduled for 6th December 2012.
The London Gateway Port project is the most significant Port infrastructure development in the UK. It is located in Essex, on the north bank of the Thames. The final Port will provide nearly 2.7km of deep water berth. The Port is backed to landward by a large logistics park through which goods will flow to and from the major markets of the London and (the south east of) England.
Since March 2010, Dredging International has been dredging the access channel and constructing the Port platform for London Gateway Port Limited and developers DP World.
The dredging is in the navigational channel to the Port which is over 100km in length. This will provide deep water access for the largest sea-going vessels in the world. The dredged material (some 21M m3 dredged to date) is being used to reclaim the Port area, and for raising of land levels in the logistics park.
The dredging and reclamation works are planned to be complete in the next year and so this is an opportunity to see the scale of the project and progress made since 2010. The site visit will start with a short presentation of the works by Dredging International Project Director Ronny Simons, followed by a site tour, and provide opportunity for both asking questions and networking.
