Scottish Enterprise, in association with Forth Ports Limited and City of Edinburgh Council, is considering investment options for the Port of Leith. The aim will be to provide flexible facilities at Leith for a range of possible industry uses including dry bulk cargo, cruise shipping, offshore wind turbine manufacturing, installation and maintenance vessels, oil and gas decommissioning, carbon capture and storage vessels and ferry services.
An intrusive investigation is to be undertaken at the site to provide information on the ground conditions present at the site, to allow the detailed design of the enabling works, which will principally comprise the construction of a new heavy load route across the site to a new outer berth. The intrusive investigation will also be undertaken across the whole development area to provide preliminary investigation information on these areas. Some of the boreholes require being undertaken within the impounded dock and therefore drilling from a pontoon (or similar) will be required.
