Canadian tidal turbine developer Clean Current Power Systems continues with its effort to develop tidal energy projects in Nova Scotia, after the recent announcement that the company and its partner Alstom terminated their licensing agreement to install a 1MW tidal test turbine near Parrsboro in the Bay of Fundy.
Clean Current Power Systems is developing smaller-scale turbines, for which it hopes to be incorporated in other proposed tidal projects in Nova Scotia province, but is also interested in manufacturing a larger turbine later on.
“We believe that we’re a good fit for at least some of the sites being considered,” Clean Current president Chris Gora told The Chronicle Herald on ventures proposed as part of the province’s community feed-in tariff program.
The company signed a licensing agreement with Alstom in May 2009, with the purpose of bringing its first commercial tidal energy products to market by 2012. But, in November 2012 the companies mutually decided to end the agreement.
