The delays in building electricity transfer links cause the risk for Scotland’s planned offshore tidal, wave and wind power plants, the renewable energy developers announce.
According to the founder and director of Pelamis Wave Power, Richard Yemm, wave and tidal energy projects are reliant on the new links to deliver electricity from Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles to the Scottish mainland, Bloomberg informs.
Aquamarine Power Ltd., as a developer of wave energy technology, also expressed concerns over the delays.
Bloomberg quoted a Scottish government spokeswoman as saying: “ This news underlines the need for swift action to end the discriminatory treatment of the Scottish Islands regarding grid connection charges.”
