Nova Scotia Power is replacing three old cables installed at Brier Island in 1997 with four new undersea cables, Digby Courier informs.

The project will cost around $2.2 million dollars and the length of each cable will be 1.2 km. Nova Scotia Power official David Rodenhiser stated that the fourth cable is referred to as a ‘hot spare’.

He commented: “ We only need three cables but the hot spare gives us some extra reliability .”

The company’s engineers are managing the process of installation, and the IT International Telecom of Halifax is conducting the installation work with its specialized barge and two tugs.

Until now three cables were put in place, and the company is awaiting good weather to install the remaining fourth one.
