Despite the slow start of New Jersey offshore wind project, the developers are moving forward with the plan to transmit the electricity generated by giant turbines, Philly.com news site reports.
The Atlantic Wind Connection developers rely on political support for the installation of subsea cables linking the offshore power generators to onshore customers.
While awaiting state approval for the project, the Atlantic Wind developers say their plan doesn’t need wind farms to get started.
They say the submarine system alone will transmit conventionally generated power to congested northern New Jersey.
Philly.com also wrote that Atlantic Wind’s supporters say the backbone project would enhance the reliability of the grid.
