Technip Offshore Wind has safely and successfully completed contractual work on the installation of 38 array and 8 substation cables on the Lincs wind farm located off the Lincolnshire coast. The project was the first to use the award-winning Pull-In Module (PIM) Technology.

Geoff Fisher, Vice President, Marine Renewables and Cables Division said: ‘The positive conclusion of Technip Offshore Wind’s role in this project marks a milestone achievement in improved cable laying efficiency and better-quality offshore health and safety practices.

‘The success of the project demonstrates the strides that can be made when innovative technology is combined with a commitment to safe, effective project delivery.’

The full cable installation for the project was executed with an excellent safety record, in excess of 1,500,000 man hours including 900,000 from Technip with no lost time injuries sustained. This is a testament to improvements in safety-focused technology and the adoption of Pulse, Technip’s unique Health and Safety programme, which created a strong safety-led climate within the team.

The Pull-In Module brought a reduction in individual cable pull-in time by approximately 60%, despite prolonged periods of standby due to bad weather. The new technology also facilitated improved workplace safety by minimising the number of potentially hazardous heavy lifts from barge to turbine and the manual handling associated with this and the cable installation pull-in.

The 75-turbine development is a joint venture between UK energy company Centrica Energy, DONG Energy and Siemens Project Ventures, and is scheduled for completion later this year.
