I R of Iran Becomes New Member of PRIMAR ENC

The Norwegian Hydrographic Service has signed a bilateral agreement with the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) of I R Iran. As a result of signing of this agreement the Iranian ENCs will be available through the PRIMAR ENC service. The Iranian ENCs will at present comprise of 120 cells organized

The Norwegian Hydrographic Service has signed a bilateral agreement with the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) of I R Iran. As a result of signing of this agreement the Iranian ENCs will be available through the PRIMAR ENC service.

The Iranian ENCs will at present comprise of 120 cells organized in Approach, Harbour and berthing usage band scales.

“The Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman are an strategically important area for the maritime transport and the introduction of Iranian ENCs will significantly increase the ENC coverage available in this region in accordance with IMO and IHO requirements. It is also a major step towards achieving global ENC coverage”, says Mr. Evert Flier, Director of the Norwegian Hydrographic Service.

Mr. Sayed Ali Estiri, Vice President for Maritime affairs of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran , says: “This is a major step also for the Iran Hydrographic Office and PMO in order to discharge their obligations in accordance with SOLAS Convention. We are very pleased to contribute with our ENCs to improve the safety for the mariners in this area, and look forward to a fruitful cooperation with PRIMAR in the future.”
