DONG Energy has discovered hydrocarbons at Trym South in the Norwegian North Sea.
Trym South is located approximately 2 kilometres south of the Trym field in the southern part of the North Sea. Current estimates suggest a discovery between 1 and 2 million Sm3 oil equivalents.
Data has been acquired and samples have been taken. It will now be plugged and abandoned, and the partners will evaluate the profitability of the discovery.
The well was drilled in 65 metres water depth in license 147, and hydrocarbons were found in the middle Jurassic section. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3688 metres below sea level.
Managing Director Philip J. Lafeber says:
“DONG Energy in Norway have been active exploring the Norwegian continental shelf for several years and are operators of two fields. We are a significant producer on the Norwegian continental shelf, where Ormen Lange makes up a big share of our portfolio. In addition we are active partner in a number of licenses in the North Sea as well as at Haltenbanken and the Barents Sea.”
Trym South was drilled by Mærsk Giant, and the activity was completed in a safe manner with no reportable incidents. Mærsk Giant will now move on to exploration license Musling (license 289), which is also operated by DONG Energy in Norway.
DONG Energy is operator of Trym South and license partner is Bayerngas Norge. Each hold a 50% share of the license.
