On Thursday 7 March the Gjøa exhibition at the Coastal Museum in Florø was officially opened by the Chairman of the County Council of Sogn og Fjordane, Åshild Kjelsnes.

Chairman of the County Council of Sogn og Fjordane, Åshild Kjelsnes, with MD Atle Sonesen at the opening of the exhibition. The exhibition focuses on displaying the everyday life at the Gjøa platform, safety and the activities in Florø – both with facts, a Gjøa platform model, pictures, interactive features and films.

– This is a great day for coastal culture, Flora and the county when we celebrate the new opening and a great upgrade of the oil exhibition at our Coastal Museum. It will delight the audience, be a good learning arena for pupils and students, and it will strengthen the county’s cultural identity. It was with great joy and optimism we received the news of the development of the Gjøa field. GDF SUEZ quickly made it clear that they intended to become a significant player in the Flora community. Today, GDF SUEZ is a familiar, dear and natural part of the Fjord Base, and they have shown that they are committed and look to the future. For this we are very pleased, said the Chairman of the County Council, Åshild Kjelsnes when opening the exhibition.

The day was celebrated together with local stakeholders and collaborating partners. The Executive Director at the Costal Museum, Berit Høivik, was proud to present the newest feature at the museum.

– The cultural-historical arena is essential for understanding the petroleum activity’s integration in the coastal cultural society. As a museum, the Coastal Museum emphasises on the communication perspective that shows the oil industry’s place in the tradition of utilizing local natural resources while at the same time as we show the oil industry’s place in a global perspective, says Høivik .

GDF SUEZ E&P Norge har been present in Florø since 2008 with our base and logistics office supporting the operations on the Gjøa platform. At this moment in time, the Gjøa platform has been a part of the view from local mountains in Florø for 1000 days – representing the fairly new coastal culture of Norway. Our contribution to the new exhibition allows us to illustrate how we manage our social responsibility offshore, by illustrating the work, the facility and the constant focus on safety.

– The new exhibition represents the modern coastal culture with the oil industry and its workers and it now reflects the museum’s outstanding collection of coastal heritage with boats and maritime equipment, says Ulf Rosenberg, Head of Communication in GDF SUEZ.
