Algoma Names Its First Gearless Bulk Carrier in China

Naming Ceremony for the first 31,200 DWT Great Lakes Gearless Bulk Carrier, built by Nantong Mingde for the Algoma Central Corporation, was successfully carried out at the Pier No.3 on April 7th.

On the ceremony, Godmother Miss Rasa Rudnitsky named the vessel “Algoma Equinox”. Mr. Ji Fenghua, Board Chairman of Mingde and Mr. RegWhite, CEO OF Algoma delivered speeches respectively. More than 200 people including the leaders from Government of Nantong city and Tongzhou district, related partners from Banks, and staff of Mingde witnessed this naming ceremony.

Algoma Central Corporation, in total, ordered eight new bulk carriers from Nantong Mingde, four of which will be self-unloading bulk carriers. The owner has a blueprint to build 12 self-unloaders and 11 Gearless bulk carriers from 2009 to 2014 to complete the renewal of its fleet before 2020.
