The German navigation system supplier Raytheon Anschütz exhibits its new, IMO-certified Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control system as well as the new Horizon MF as a maintenance-free gyro compass.

Horizon MF is Raytheon Anschütz’ new strap down compass system which uses Hemispherical Resonator Gyros to measure angular rates for heading calculation. Horizon MF comes as a maintenance-free sensor with an outstanding lifetime performance and is presented at Nor-Shipping for the first time ever. Horizon MF seamlessly integrates into a Standard 22 gyro compass system and into the Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control system.

The Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control system is the first – and so far only – Integrated Navigation System (INS) which is type approved according to the new IMO Performance Standard MSC.252(83)

The new Performance Standards require an Integrated Navigation System to integrate the tasks of collision avoidance, route monitoring, route planning, navigation control data display, status and data display as well as a centralized human-machine interface for alert management on multi-functional displays. INS also provides integration of sensor data and other information such as MSI, AIS, charts, radar, centralized alarm management, system status display and reliability indication for important equipment. These are only a few features that improve availability of function and data and thus help to make navigation safer as well as bridge operations simpler without additional cost.

Beyond the functional features, Synapsis comes with a new architecture, typically based on Multifunctional Workstations featuring an innovative infrastructure software framework, which serves as the “Synapsis Integration Platform” within the redundant bridge Ethernet network. The Synapsis bridge system is ready to comply with the most demanding class notations including DNV NAUT-OSV and -AW. Synapsis became reality in 2012 with the installation on a tanker newbuilding series at 3. Maj Shipyard of Rijeka, Croatia.
