The 1st IMarEST LNG Ship Fuel Technology Conference, with its theme ‘Can Technology and Training Cope with Commercial Demands?’ will explore the challenges, as well as the development and potential, of LNG as a fuel for merchant shipping, and, by means of input from all relevant industry stakeholders, address the vital question of how to achieve the safe operational use of LNG as a fuel for ships.
“New fuel, new challenges – it is what our members thrive on, and we are delighted to organise this inaugural conference in what is designed to be an annual series,” says David Loosley, Chief Executive of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) who are holding the conference with the support of INTERTANKO, the Port of Antwerp and SIGTTO. “We look forward to a highly successful event attended by shipowners, operators and managers; flag and port states; shipbuilders and ship repairers; class societies; and colleges, academia and research organisations.
“Key themes running throughout the two days are whether commercial considerations are driving the ‘dash for gas’ before technology and training can cope; safety concerns and technical challenges surrounding both bunkering and shipboard storage of LNG; and case studies and experiences with LNG shared by owners and operators.”
