Dubai Council for Marine and Maritime Industries, the umbrella industry body representing the marine and relevant industry, yesterday had its first introductory member’s meeting. The meeting sought to introduce the members, lay the broad framework for future operations, brainstorming on pressing industry issues and strengthen the foundation for meaningful networking among industry partners.

The meeting was attended by 16 members representing a wide cross-section of the industry who re-asserted their commitment to the Council’s priorities such as promoting overall industry excellence, encourage investment and promote talent. In order to facilitate the functioning of the Council, three Committees have been constituted including – Legal Affairs, Technical Services and Corporate Communications.

Speaking on the occasion, Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World said, “We have achieved a major milestone in initiating the Council’s operations. All members have tremendous expertise and experience in their respective fields and we aim to obtain a knowledgeable collective and cohesive take on imminent issues and present a strong industry voice at relevant platforms. The Council will address pertinent issues related to expand the network in terms of widening the membership. It will strive to support government initiatives for the industry and local and international laws and regulations related to the marine industry. It is also committed to working with an environment conscience and in promoting green industries that will direct the future of shipping.”

Among the Council’s priorities are, arriving at a Council constitution that will act as a framework for resolving issues or concerns related to the industrial and commercial businesses, developing business collaboration, integration and synergies. It will participate in industry dialogues on laws and regulation, social activities and fellowship receptions for networking and conduct regular follow-up meetings to assess and promote effectiveness.
