Sluggish newbuilding market has proven a great time to invest for the long-term, especially for Wisdom Marine Group, one of the largest bulk ship owners in Taiwan, that decided to add nine new dry bulk carriers to its expanding fleet.

Three Japanese shipyards, those being Sasebo Heavy Industries Co Ltd, Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co Ltd and Oshima Shipbuilding Co Ltd, will be in charge of construction of six bulkers.

The six newbuildings include one 74,700 dwt panamax, two 82,000 dwt kamsarmaxes and three 60,000 dwt supramaxes slated for delivery between this year and 2015, according to Taipei Times.

The orders will be financed by six Taiwanese banks based on a two-tranche syndicated loan agreement worth $178.5m.

The remaining three orders have been placed with Kawasaki Heavy Industries for one 55,000 dwt bulker and Namura Shipbuilding for two 34,000 dwt bulkers.
