Fairfield Energy, the North Sea-focused independent oil and gas company, announces the start of a 400km² Broadband 3D seismic survey over their recently awarded 27th Round Licence P2089 Block 43/28.

The survey will be acquired by Polarcus and will fulfil the firm commitment work programme on the licence, where wholly owned subsidiary Fairfield Cedrus Limited is operator with a 50% interest along with partner Viking UK Gas Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Third-Energy (also with a 50% interest).

The 3D seismic acquisition programme comprises part of a new and much larger Polarcus broadband multi-client survey of up to 2000km² being acquired by the 3D seismic vessel, Polarcus Nadia. Instigated and designed in conjunction with GeoPartners and Fairfield, the Polarcus RightPlan™ survey utilizes the ultra-quiet Sentinel® solid streamers towed at 12m depth and GXT’s WiBand™ processing technology to deliver a significantly improved broadband image. To date, 43/28 along with nearby part blocks has only been appraised using existing 2D data. The partnership will take receipt of the new 3D volume during the fourth quarter of this year giving sufficient time to fully evaluate both structural Carboniferous and stratigraphic Permian exploration plays previously identified.

Fairfield’s Chief Executive Officer, David Peattie , commented:

“We are pleased to announce the commencement of the Block 43/28 survey. Planning for the survey has been executed in a very short time frame which will allow us to meet our commitments on this license in only its first year. The new results, using the very latest in seismic technology should allow us to gain a much improved image of the Carboniferous in this area.”
