Technip Offshore Wind has started offshore operations on an array cable installation contract for phase 1 of the Borkum Wind Farm development, located 45 kilometers to the North of the German island of Borkum, in the North Sea.
This project, awarded by Trianel, is Technip’s first offshore wind, array cable installation project offshore Germany.
The 400-MW project, utilising in its first phase 40 Areva M5000 turbines, will see Technip install and bury 43 array cables in a water depth averaging 28 metres. Once completed, the Borkum development will supply eco-electricity for approximately 200,000 households.
Technip Offshore Wind’s operating centres in Aberdeen and Gateshead are working in conjunction to engineer and deliver this fast-track project. Technip is utilizing the Normand Pioneer vessel from its fleet for cable installation along with the cable collection and transportation barge UR141, to complete the workscope. Technip’s new CBT 1100 Trenching Systemwill be deployed for the first time on this project, which is due to be completed in the second semester of 2013.
