The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport has been advised by Shell E&P Ireland Limited that Umbilical Installation and associated works will commence along the route of the existing Corrib offshore gas pipeline.
Works are due to commence on 8th May 2013, with near shore preparations in the days before this (placing buoys at 75m interval spacing around the bellmouth, i.e. area where the dive vessel is working), and the umbilical pull-in to Glengad and subsequent lay away of the umbilical from Broadhaven Bay to the Corrib field in June 2013. Further, tie-in works will be carried out in the Corrib field. The umbilical lay is due to be completed by mid-July, weather permitting.
A number of vessels will be used throughout the offshore works period. The vessels to be used during the works scope will include:
– Dive Support Vessel: MSV Nero
– Umbilical Lay vessel: North Sea Giant
– Multi-Purpose Construction Vessel: Havila Phoenix
– There will also be a number of service vessels associated with the works.
The North Sea Giant will install the main umbilical and perform additional works in the field. The Havila Phoenix will be used for survey support, installation support and post-lay jetting. The Nero will be used to support the near shore diving activities for bellmouth and conduit preparations.
In order to create a safe working environment for the near shore diving activities and the umbilical pull-in, a Safety Zone around the bellmouth (250m radius) will be identified with red marker buoys (spaced at 75m interval around the circumference of safety zone).
