Sea Wave Energy Ltd (SWEL), a renewable power business focused on the ocean/sea energy sector, has developed a Wave Energy Converter (WEC), the Waveline Magnet.

This technology has many unique advantages:

– Low cost of manufacture, a rarity in the ocean power sector.

– Low deployment and mooring costs

– Little resistance to waves, giving high durability and survivability

– Continuous and sustainable energy generation

– Good efficiency recorded in early sea-trials

– Reduced coastal erosion by ‘depowering’ the force of the waves

– Ideally suited to power desalination plants

Early sea trials of prototype WM6, carried out in Cyprus and independently monitored by the University of Exeter in July 2012 demonstrated good efficiency, even with low wave heights.

These Cyprus tests revealed that the Waveline Magnet offers other green benefits on top of harnessing wave power to turn into electricity but also an ideal means by which sea water can be desalinated to provide clean water via green energy, thus avoiding the heavy use of fossil fuels and at a reduced cost. Further, a large scale Waveline Magnet is even predicted to supply a solution to areas that are suffering from wave induced coastal erosion.
